The Mazahua Mission Hacienda de Tepetitlan, is located 70 miles northwest of Mexico City in a rural area called San Felipe del Progreso. The Mazahua Indian is at the lowest level of poverty in the entire country. Most are farmers that grow corn and pumpkin. All of this work is done by hand from plowing to harvest. During our mission trip we assist with the restoration of the hacienda and any other work needed in the community. There is another mission group at the hacienda we also work with called the World Access Project. They deal with the handicapped, mostly those in wheelchairs. We as a group collect wheelchairs here at home. We then acquired the needed parts to completely refurbish the chairs into good working order and then take them with us for distribution at the mission. We spend 3 1/2 days with the missions handicapped; tending to their needs, getting them up in the mornings, washing those who can’t perform this task on their own, participate in their exercise time, sporting events, bible study and craft periods.
Volunteers from Christ Lutheran Church conduct this mission effort and trip each year.
Below are some photos that depict the missions work and environment.
