Named after the first Deacon in the early church, it is grounded in Jesus’ command for us to love one another. Through one-to-one caring relationships, those who are in need of a Christian friend to walk with them in a time of uncertainty or crisis can have an ongoing helping relationship with scheduled regular, dependable, and confidential visits. It can be for a short time or a longer time as needed. [If you are interested in becoming a Stephen Minister please print and complete the attached APPLICATION FORM. After completing the form please deliver it to the church office.]
They are lay men and women from our congregation, who have been specially trained (for more than 50 hours) to bring the care and concern of Christ’s community to all who need them. They are not counselors or therapists, nor are they problem fixers. They are gifted and caring Christians who walk with others in difficult times.
Either you or a friend (with your permission) would contact Pastor Fred Milligan. Our staff may also suggest this wonderful resource to you personally. You would then be contacted by them in order to explain Stephen Ministry. A Stephen Minister will then be assigned to meet with the care-receiver on a regular basis, and provide distinctively Christian care in a confidential atmosphere for as long as needed.
Absolutely not! This is an expansion of the ministry of the Pastor and of our Church. Stephen Ministers receive regular supervision and continuing education to strengthen and deepen their gifts.
Having hospitalization and recovery needs, but don’t feel you need a formal Stephen Ministry relationship? Trained Stephen Ministers are also available to be your friend and support during your recovery. For more information about this read the attached brochure “Visiting Stephen Minister Program.”
