THERE ARE ANGELS AMONG US STILL! Thanks to John and Joyce Orr, Glen House and Ron Borges, who made Cliff Johnson’s move to the new facility very smooth. Their labors, moving the same large dresser down hill and up hill, hooking up the computer and television, and general good humor, made what could have been a trying day, great. I know Cliff would appreciate notes and Cards. His new address is 880 West Main Street, Building B, Room 300, Pleasant Hill, TN 38578. Thanks, Grayce Tyszko
LIFETIME LEARNING PROJECT BROCHURES outlining the class offerings for September - November, 2010, are available in the Narthex. If this is of interest to you, please pick up one of these bright orange brochures.
ELCA Disaster Appeal - With the recent flooding in Tennessee and Mississippi, there is an even greater need to replenish funds. Please consider using one of the special envelopes in the bulletin or pews to donate to the ELCA Disaster Fund.
Help Needed! - We have church members that occasionally need a hand. We are looking for people willing to give of their time and talents in a volunteer capacity. There is a new sign-up sheet on the Service Bulletin Board for handyman help (with only material cost to be paid by the homeowner) and for occasional short-term home care (2-3 hours) to relieve a caregiver so that they can run errands or have a few hours of personal time. If you are able to assist a fellow church member in need, please consider volunteering and sign up on the board. We now have a new list posted on the Service Bulletin Board of people who have volunteered their time to run errands for shut-ins.
CHRIST LUTHERAN CHURCH MEN'S CLUB - The next monthly meeting of the CLC Men's Club will be on Thursday, August 19, 2010 at 5:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. The meal will cost $10 per person and will again be catered by Lefty's. This will be another Game Night for those that are interested. So bring your sequence boards, checkers, cards or any other game that you might want to share with the other men. A sign-up sheet is in the hallway. Contact Ed Litman at 456-8974 if you have any questions.
STEPHEN MINISTER TRAINING - We are planning Stephen Minister training in August. Anyone interested in becoming a Stephen Minister can contact one of the leaders for an application. July Barrel Ministry - We are collecting the following goods for Neighbors Together this month: peanut butter, jelly, macaroni and cheese, ramen noodles, canned soup, spaghetti sauce, pasta, cereal, canned potatoes, canned meats, canned fruits and vegetables, flour, sugar, salt, cornmeal, juices, new or used clothing, particularly men’s shoes and boots sizes 8½ -10½, and men’s t-shirts, socks, and used blankets. Thank you for your support of this very important community outreach group.
BREAD OF LIFE - The Bread of Life meal for the month of August will be on August 8. A sign-up sheet will be posted on the Service Bulletin Board. If you can help out for just a couple hours, it would be much appreciated. You can help by donating or preparing food to be served at the mission, or by serving the noon meal. Food donations or prepared food needs to be in the CLC kitchen by 10:30 a.m. for delivery to the mission. Please contact Jo Borges for further information.
RETURN OF THE 278TH ACR - I hope all of you who were planning to attend the "Welcome Home" celebration for G Troop on Saturday, July 24, received the PhoneTree message indicating the celebration was cancelled. I have no information as to why things were changed, except that the unit returned from Iraq early and the families/subordinate units were allowed to pick up their soldiers following processing in Smyrna. The Red Cross is still attempting to arrange some type of welcome home celebration - perhaps at the next weekend drill in September (no further information). In spite of the change in plans, I want to thank all of you who purchased a 'yellow ribbon' - I was told that Christ Lutheran members were very supportive in this effort, and I'm sure the ribbons put a smile on the faces of our soldiers from the Crossville area who arrived back late Wednesday evening. I also want to thank the entire congregation for supporting the soldiers through your thoughts, prayers, correspondence and "care packages."
HANK TEGTMEIER CHARITY GOLF OUTING -
This year’s golf tournament will be held Sunday, September 12, at the Heatherhurst Brae Course. There are many opportunities to participate: play a round of golf, join us for a meal, provide a dessert, help at one of the golf holes, help at the registration table or help with table set-ups. Sign-up sheets will be posted at the beginning of August. Golfers will pay their own greens’ fees, plus $13.00 for an entry fee and dinner. Non-golfers will pay $9.00 for their meal. Peavine Care Center will be the recipient of our efforts. Our focus this year will be on raising as much money as we can for our charity, so gifts will be minimal. We know that participants will want to support our efforts to channel the monies into Peavine Care Center. All are encouraged to join in the fun!!! Questions? Call Gary Sherman at 456-0457
